Be interested to hear your views folks.
Still gotta be "There is a Light..." but "Everybody's Talking At Me" recently performed for a US radio station with CH comes a close second http://www.abc.net.au/jtv/video/FRIDAY.htm?clip=crowdedhouse1 |

I'm really enjoying Billie Jean and The Two of Us at the moment. Who would think Neil could nail a song like Billie Jean? Just shows how good a singer he is.

Well I love the original of Billie Jean anyway but Neil does a great cover.
Also love his sexual healing cover. He did the Beatle's Revolution with CH (can I include that?) which was amazing ----------------------------------- A sense sublime/Of something far more deeply interfused/Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns/And the round ocean and the living air/And the blue sky, and in the mind of man. Sorry, Greatfox - still learning my ABCs...
Only one I can't really stand and its got more to do with the production than Mr Finn, is "I Can See Clearly Now".....sorry Paul H! Would love to hear How Soon Is Now, Finngirl?! |

Ironically enough I like "I Can See Clearly Now" Bart. Until I heard Neil's, the only one I knew was the Lee Towers version and I don't know if you ever heard it, but I can assure you it was Neil's version that made me like the song. edit: sorry, I heard other versions before too like Hothouse Flowers, but the Lee Towers one is the one I heard the most. _____________________ The Belgian chocolate industry has been taken over completely by the Swiss - Neil Finn, Paris, 21/10/2007 |

Wow, where can I hear Neil's cover of "Billie Jean"? Does he really do the whole song, or is it just an extemporaneous live snippet?

"Billie Jean" and "Sexual Healing" were both recorded in studio by just Neil and his trusty acoustic guitar. Both version were released on compilations called something like "Andrew Denton's Music Challenge" or something. The collection each feature a variety of known and lesser-known artists doing unlikely cover versions.
I'm not a huge fan of the one-off CH live covers but any time they do it in the studio it seems to come out pure gold. I love the CH version of "She's Not There" which really should have been on Temple of Low Men. "Everybody's Talking At Me" is also beautiful as well as Neil's "I Can See Clearly Now" from the soundtrack to the Antz movie. ***Round 6 is here!*** Click it and Tick it! http://frenzforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7311061171/m/6...351041045#7351041045 |

Thanks for the info!
Oooooo...I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there! Not to say that Neil's material on Temple is especially autobiographical, but the whole album just has such an intimate vibe. A cover tune breaks the spell a little bit. (just my opinion) Also, as good as Neil's vocal sound is, I've never been entirely convinced that the song overall bests the original. It's a close call. I think Neil is a good interpreter of others' material, but I wouldn't like to see cover tunes being put onto actual albums (unless of course he were to do a 1-off all-covers album, a project of that nature). -- > _ "and when you're in the moment, everything you want is right." we can choose what we choose to believe. |

Heard a really cheeky version of Bowie's Ashes to Ashes live at Largo with Jon Brion and Grant Lee Phillips.
How soon is Now at LA House of Blues was heaven. But for recorded songs - Sexual Healing! I am lost lost If June Cleaver was so happy, why did she fret so darn hard about the Beav? |

I love his cover of Norwegian Wood, think it was off one of the webcasts.
Personally I find it difficult to say anything nice about "I can see clearly" apart from the fact that Neil's voice is as ever great, but I think the arrangement/production sucks (IMHO "Who stabbed the haggis? Nick Seymour stabbed the haggis" N Finn, Glasgow SECC, 30/11/07 |

"I Can See Clearly Now" was first a major major hit for Johnny Nash way back in 1972 and is the definitive version. Mind you, Neil's is more than acceptable.
Can't go past Neil's version of "Sexual Healing", which sounds perverted but only in a Neil Finn way. "Two Of Us" was great. "Making Plans For Nigel" - even though not serious, gets full marks for trying even though Neil obviously doesn't know all the words yet. Of course the Crowdies' "Throw Your Arms Around Me" nearly stole the song from Hunters & Collectors. ...but my absolute fave is "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" which even impressed the co-writer Johnny Marr. The original was great (and let's face it, Neil's version wasn't that far removed from it), however the Finn version was excellent and a nice surprise. |

Anyone know where I can listen to Neil's version of 'You Sexy Thing' ...
I've heard Crwoded House did a few random versions of it through the recent tour.... "I feared I was going to get bomb dived by a magpie, Nick had told me stories about them... it didn't help when I saw signs saying "Beware of Snakes" " - Neil Finn 9.11.07 |

Oooh, there's a live bootleg out there of Neil launching spontaneously into Moon River. And even though he leaves off the last bit, it's really quite lovely.
When I saw him on the TWT tour in Toronto, he made some comment about playing Billy Joel's Piano Man whilst seated behind the grand piano. He launched into a quick bit but mercifully cut it short |
