Neil solo tour 2002.
Sold-out show in Toronto at The Phoenix.
He and band ripped through Day Tripper spontaneously. (Can you picture him reaching for and nailing that first line: "Got a good reason...")
Superb.

I was there, that was a great show! A bit cold waiting in line in the frozen rain though! It's the only time I've ever heard Neil play "Now We're Getting Somewhere" ... I know it's not a cover, just a fond memory from that show.

Cosmic! You were there Painaporo?

Yes I remember the freezing rain and you're right NWGS was excellent. If memory serves me it was the opening number.

It was a good setlist. I actually have Neil's setlist right here in my scrapbook from that show. My wife and I were standing at Neil's feet all night (and getting spit on [accidentally] by Rhett Miller).

Now We're Getting Somewhere
Wherever You Are
Pineapple Head
Locked Out
Anytime
Hole in the Ice
Sinner
Love This Life
Love is All That Remains
Faster Than Light
Human Kindness
Loose Tongue
Driving Me Mad
---
There is a Light
Last to Know
Weather
---
I Got You
Dream

I know there were three cover songs played that night based on song lyrics written on the walls of the club. One of them being "Somebody" by Depeche Mode. Was "Day Tripper" one of those wall-inspired numbers?

Neil does a great version of Paul Kelly's Leaps and Bounds. Great song.

------------------------

" I could start again, you can depend on it" Neil Finn

"I could always make a start on something new" Tim Finn

"I stare into space, there is no connection ...

"Today I am still disconnected" N. Finn

"I heard there was a secret chord"

"There's a song that's just begun, strikes a chord in everyone"

Great topic, for me it's 'Irish Heartbeat' with the Crowdies. TYAAM of course and 'I Can See Clearly Now' is fab! Not really a cover but his version of 'I Got You' live on Cd single of Last one standing is amazing for me!!

I have (and love) Neil's versions of Billie Jean and Sexual Healing. But something about him doing Throw Your Arms Around Me just makes me very stupid and girly. It could be because it is such a sexually charged song being sung by a man with THAT voice. SIGH!
This is my fave youtube link to it.

Hi Beajai. The best version I've heard of this song featured on a recent UK TV show - see the CH forum. Hopefully someone will upload it!

Hey BART
I've checked that out, but no upload yet, it would seem. What I love about the one I posted is that it's just Neil and his guitar and it's so very acoustic.

- you checked out the other songs he did for that session? - Distant Sun & Fall At Your Feet.

Agree all 3 sound great stripped back to just acoustic/vocal, which just goes to highlight the strength of songwriting of Messrs Finn and Seymour (Mark). Incidentally, there's a good 'stripped' acoustic version of TYAAM by the songwriter himself on his album Darkness and the Dark

I recently uploaded a version of this from Dutch TV program "lalalalive" in 1998

This is part 4 of the programme. Have a look through my other videos and you will find the other parts , which also include covers
of Nowhere Man ( Beatles ) , Venus ( Shocking Blue ) & brief burst of Gimme some loving ( Spencer Davis Group )

Thanks for posting those, dl! I've never seen the part with You Sexy Thing. Neil's wide-eyed expression when that song was selected for him was priceless. I liked seeing him singing for a change without a guitar or piano in front of him.

Does that Hot Chocolate come with a Neil Finn Sandwich? Yum!

Last summer CH did a snippet of "Only Living Boy in New York" by Simon & Garfunkel. True to form it was tender and sweet. True to form he only did half because he forgot the rest of the words.
