•Largo — Vox Pop’s favorite place in the world — is moving. But only about a mile west, and into much larger digs: the Coronet Theatre.

There are several performance spaces, so Largo proprietor Mark Flanagan promises there will still be intimate shows.

But the good news is that people won’t have to line up on Fairfax Avenue for hours to try to get in. No more need for dinner reservations or complaining that you can’t get in to see comics Sarah Silverman and Paul F. Tompkins, or the ubiquitous Jon Brion.

Largo at the Coronet opens with Largo regular Aimee Mann on June 2-4. Look for a few nights from Neil Finn (Liam Flynn’s dad, for you young hipsters) and Flight of the Conchords, plus marathon sessions from Brion as well as some special performances befitting the historic theater, which once housed the West Coast offices of Rogers and Hammerstein.

Fortunately, the old Largo’s history will be well chronicled in “Largo,” a collection of music and comedy performances beautifully shot in black and white at the club; it debuts later in June at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The film features regulars Brion, Silverman, Tompkins and Mann as well as Fiona Apple, Grant Lee Phillips, Nickel Creek, David Garza, the Naked Trucker, Louis CK, Zach Galifianakis, Heartbreaker Benmont Tench, Patton Oswalt, Greg Proops, Margaret Cho, Greg Behrendt, Michael Penn… and, believe it or not, lots of others.

Plus heartbreaking footage of the late Elliott Smith (pictured backstage at Largo; photo by Denise Siegel).

Here’s the trailer:

And if you want to check out a show at the original Largo while there’s still time, click here. (Be forewarned: While Flanagan, too, is from Belfast, the club is never open on St. Patrick’s Day.)

Thanks for the heads-up. It's great news any time Neil comes to play Largo, however it may be hard to recreate the ambiance of that great little place on Fairfax. I'll be sure to catch a few more shows before the move.

Yeah, Flynn's great. All the kids love him. :-)

Checked out the Largo schedule. There's nothing about this on their site! Would love to know more and be there for both Neil and Flight of the Conchords.

I checked with Neil again on this and still it's only 50/50...as soon as we know more I'll post something here or on www.frenz.com/neilfinn/ but for the moment nothing new about the 'possible' Largo show/s.

A dream of mine is to be able to go out to LA for a week (or, better, a month!) of shows at Largo. Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Colin Hay (who is such a GREAT, funny storyteller live), John Brion, Greg Proops, at least one Finn... Smiler

I see that Bic Runga is playing there next Tuesday, followed by Liam Finn the next night. There's a fine week at Largo right there!!

Envious in the swamp that is DC,

Merujo...you must, MUST make that pilgrimage to Largo! Having lived for over a decade in LA and seen many artists there I can't tell you how much I miss it. There's so much I don't miss about LA, but our friends and Largo are tops on the list of things that make me sad!!

Probably the best show I've ever seen was Neil at old Largo, table in the front and appearances by Brion and many others. The best variety show you'll ever see! Just can't be beat. But that kind of experience really spoils future shows at larger venues!

The new Largo at Coronet isn't quite as intimate, but I'm sure it's every bit as worthy. Flanagan knows how to make the artist the centerpiece and in LA, this is the most refreshing venue.

And Yes! Colin Hay is an awesome showman. He was one of the last Largo shows I saw before the move. Very entertaining and his solo work is quite good. For his encore, his band did Down Under with didgeridoo and bagpipes (meshing his roots and adopted country)...fantastic.

So go to Largo. In fact, go immediately...next week is Liam and Bic Runga. I've also seen both of them at Largo and wow! For anyone who hasn't latched onto Bic, she's extremely talented.

You have to do this!!!

I'm coming out for my first trip to LA in October - what's the chance I'll be around at the right time?

Yeah Bic is back again on July 8th, hopefully the Flight Of The Conchord guys are also up for a few songs that night on the same stage....so if you live in/near LA enjoy this show!

Re: Neil, I did hear from him on this and it's fairly sure he isn't playing Largo in July, I know a few enthusiastic people said he IS but it's closer to he ISN'T (sorry). If that changes will mention it but for the moment it's far more like a NO (sorry)

Pity, but not a real surprise, given everything he has going on in Europe (Crowded House) and New Zealand (Finn Brothers). The man can only be in one place at once, right?

I'm a bit sorry to hear this as I would have loved to see Neil play at Largo. But I absolutely respect that he is only human and does have a life outside of the live show circuit. He can't be expected to play at our every whim in every part of the world all of the time. He'll come back to Largo when his time is a little less jam-packed and more relaxed, I hope. Smiler

Besides, I just bought my first house a few days ago and I doubt I could fly to LA to see Neil perform without a lot of financial guilt and stress...especially after going to New Zealand to see Split Enz in March AND seeing Crowded House perform in LA less than two months ago. Wink

So, thanks for deciding to NOT play Largo, Neil. I could use a break Big Grin

I would've been so annoyed if he'd played Largo in July when I'll be in LA in August (ok - I'll be in Orange County, but I'm sure I can sneak away a few days).

Nothing on the calendar for August at all -- do they even open in August? That'd be very European...

Likewise here. A little relieved he's not playing, after getting home from Russia a few days ago.

And who I wonder, could fail to notice the aching silence...
