I think he'd only turned up unannounced if he was already in town working. Given that he's currently in NZ and just got home from a major tour, I wouldn't get my hopes up that he's going to hop on a jet and fly over just for this show.

Just my $0.02 - I don't want y'all to be disappointed, though I'm sure it will be fun even without Neil. I can imagine at least FOTC will be there, and who knows, you could get somebody like the Brunettes, or some other NZ ex-pats living in America.

hexed, I agree with you both that it's unlikely that Neil will be there and that it would still be a good time without him.

I checked Bic Runga's myspace page, and she has Aug. 2 at Largo as a scheduled gig. Here's what it says:

August, 2 2008 08:00 PM - Largo at The Coronet - The First National International New Zealand Day
366 n. La Cienega blvd, Los Angeles, California - N/A

As part of "The First National International New Zealand Day"; also featuring: Boh Runga, Flight of the Conchords and other notable NZ performers. Phone for tickets: 310 8550350. Fax: 310 8550347. For more info: www.largo-la.com

Is Bic recording in LA? It seems as if she's been in town for quite a while.

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but on the Coronet schedule on the Largo website everything is clickable except for the TBA days and the closed days...AND the 1st International NZ Day. It's like a secret or something. Hmmmm...either that or they just don't know who yet will turn up!

Okay, I have the final word! My friend spoke to Flannagan last night, told him that I was going to fly from NYC for Neil and he said that Neil was definitely NOT playing next week! However, he IS going to play at some point and it will be for multiple nights! So there you have it! Hope that helps a few people out there!

I'd give up a limb to see Neil at the Largo. Those shows always seem to be special, and he and Jon Brion seem to connect musically in a way that would be worth a trip for. Hopefully these multiple nights will fall at a time when I can run away from home for a few days.

Thanks, Jenny G. I think we'll have to make you an honorary Nancy Drew or Poirot (you may choose your fave detective)! I will save for the multiple Neil dates and consider my purchased Aug. 2 ticket a little charitable contribution to the Bring Neil to Largo Soon Fund. Smiler

LOL - thanks for your support, CMC! I, too, plan on flying out for Neil's solo shows at Largo (schedule providing!) so perhaps we can raise a glass then! My friend goes to Largo a few times a week so I will post as soon as I hear anything just in case it is announced before Mr. Green's triumphant return to the forum! By the way, apparently they do not check IDs at Largo so I am selling my (4) tickets for 8/2 to some friends of my friend so you may want to do the same! Oddly enough, all they do is ask for your name at the door!

So what happened? I couldn't make it. I am still dying to know who was there. Guessing Neil wasn't or else it would've been posted here.

Thanks for that, I'm sure it was a fun night anyway, even though Neil wasn't there.

I happen to be in LA this week and noticed that Largo's schedule for this Saturday (Sept. 20th) is TBA. It would be a sweet case of serendipity if Neil happened To Be the one Announced!!

Anyone in the know on this? Thanks in advance. Might be a little too much to hope for. But hope does spring eternal!

And then I could really say that ...

I woke up this morning with a permanent smile Smiler
