Thought this was interesting, both because it will mean that Neil has local management for the first time, and also because of the mention of upcoming solo material (squee!)

Sony New Zealand's Mike Bradshaw To Manage Neil Finn
January 27, 2010 - Global | Legal and Management

By John Ferguson, Auckland

Sony Music's New Zealand managing director Mike Bradshaw is leaving the company to manage Neil Finn, Billboard.biz has learned.

A 25-year-veteran of the music industry, Bradshaw will finish at the music major toward the end of February, with current marketing director Kim Boshier taking the reins as GM of Sony Music NZ.

Bradshaw has known Finn since the 1980s, working on the first Crowded House album during his time at EMI, as well as the artist's most recent release, the "7 World Collides: The Sun Came Out" project.

"I felt I had achieved everything I had wanted to at Sony and was ready for a new challenge," he tells Billboard.biz. "It's an awesome opportunity to work with an artist of the calibre of Neil."

Finn - who was most recently represented by London-based Ignition - is keen to base himself in New Zealand and Bradshaw believes this is the first time he has actually had locally-based management.

The immediate priority will be the release of a new Crowded House album, which has provisionally been set for May, although Bradshaw says that Finn has also been working on some intriguing solo material, which he says is "very different" from what the Kiwi star is known for from previous releases.

Bradshaw has set up a new company, Meniscus Media, as a vehicle for his new management role and while his work with Finn will take up most of his time, in the future the company may look at other music-related projects.

Bradshaw entered the record industry in 1981 joining EMI as a sales cadet and was with the company until 1987. He then worked in a variety roles at CBS/Sony from 1988 to 1999, and was GM of BMG from 2002 to 2005, before being appointed MD when the company's recorded music division was merged with Sony Music.

I concur. I just ordered and received this morning a copy of One All -- until now I've only heard TWT from Neil solo. Listened to One All on the way to work this morning and like it so far. More solo stuff would definitely be welcome in my collection (and a solo tour perhaps??).

Still disillusioned years after his "Try Whistling This" effort to try to distance himself a bit from the melodic songwriting with which he was so closely associated, Neil Finn decides to foray into urban/rap! Razzer

Great news...

And if I have to wait until May (or even longer) for the CH album so be it.

Solo material...perhaps some previewed at Bush Hall next week?

Hopefully we can see it here too - we're only across the ditch and you did say at the Forum in 2008 Neil that you had last played solo here in the 90s...
