That's actually the instrumental sounds of the Stones' recording of Buddy's song. I quote Andrew Oldham from Time is on our side: quote: Although it was a Buddy Holly song, I considered it to be like the first song Mick and Keith wrote, in that they picked the concept of applying that Bo Diddley thing to it. The way they arranged it was the beginning of the shaping of them as songwriters. From then on they wrote. At that time, Mick, Keith, and I lived together. They were into the last half bottle of wine and going through, it was one of those magical moments. When Keith played that to me in the front room you could actually HEAR the record in that room. What basically made the record was that whole Bo Diddley acoustic guitar thrust.
So there you have it - CH playing Buddy Holly's song with a Stones flavor!

How about "Carried Away" and "Holy Smoke." I haven't seen them on anyone's lists yet.
Both are from the North American version of Frenzy , and also appeared as Enz b-sides.
"I Walk Away" (extended mix) also seems to be absent.

I'd like to know as well. I do know that this song appears on the album Andrew Denton's Musical Challenge, but I haven't had any luck finding an available copy unless I want to pay a fortune for an import from overseas. Maybe the powers that be should consider officially releasing a disc of Finn rarities?

Actually it's part of the original Buddy Holly version, the male back up singers sing it, more bop bop bop bop.

Just came across another 'rarity' - a US remix version of Suffer Never - quite different to the first. Hadnt heard anything about this before - where any other tracks remixed for the US?

I don't think there were. But you're right -- the remix version is quite different, and superior to what is on the album. I'm wondering who was in charge of the remix? Clearmountain? Does anyone know?

It's actually a Split Enz song, from the final studio album "See You Round." On the US release, if you play the second side first, and then the first (an order which my husband swears is the way it's meant to be heard), it's the last song you'll hear. Rather a poignant way to finish the Split Enz catalogue. You'll also hear a great version of it on the first ENZSO album, with vocals by Neil. Hope that helps!

Wow! How does a 17-year-old Neil sound like? And how was his piano playing way back then?

Semi, where is the After Hours version of Late In Rome, I don't belive it was played in Enzology (if it was it certainly wasn't in it's entirety unless I'm losing the plot)? I remember snippets of Fall Out With The Lads, both studio and live (gee I'd love to hear the full After Hours concert) and Cry Baby Cry from Wellington 76 Enz show, but not Late In Rome, unless it was a snippet. You not telling me about stuff you have? Neil's piano playing was basically the same as it is today.
