The Doug Fir in Portland is a cool and fairly intimate club for live music. It looks somewhat like the interior of a log cabin. Very Twin Peaks! Tim's nephew Liam will be making his second appearance this year at the Doug Fir in a couple weeks.
Keeping it all in the family...

Thanks for the info greg, sounds like a cool venue. As in the location, is it fairly central and do you know of any hotels close by? I would appreciate any info yourself or sunset swimmer can give regarding this, being that you're obviously both locals Smiler Ta in advance!

ON the Doug Fir web site there is a link to the hotel that is connected right to the venue. They even have a concert package. I'm thinking I might go for this. Sorry, I'm not up on doing links but it's easy to find.

hi yemanja, I don't live in Portland but I've been there many times...it's a terrific city! greg no doubt can give you better information, but I will tell you that when I was there last September for the Crowded House show, we stayed at the Hilton downtown and that hotel has the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in in my life! I want to roadtrip to Portland again soon just to sleep in one of those beds... if you're coming all the way from Australia and you're going to Portland, you ought to come up to Seattle to see Tim at Bumbershoot, too...Seattle is only a three-hour drive from Portland

The Hilton is just across the river from the venue but for sheer ease, the Jupiter Hotel is indeed attached to the Doug Fir. It's a cool hotel that used to host art exhibits and is literally a few steps from the front door of the Doug Fir. The restaurant is open 21/7 and has a great menu. The bar area is also very cool with lots of lounging options, indoors and out.
Also, think about going to Bumbershoot in Seattle. It's a massive music and arts fair in central Seattle with something for everyone. Every musical genre you could dream of, live stand up comedy, authors reading from their books, every crazy art form you could imagine all in one place. There's also big crowds but it's very friendly and doable.
Come to Portland! Come to Seattle!
I'm going to make a point of meeting some of you finally.

I am speechless as do you know what, I've actually stayed at the Jupiter Hotel and had a drink in the Doug Fir lounge!! A very long story so the short version is as follows. Went to Portland to see Springsteen in August 2005, plane delays, arrive 7.00pm being 36 hours after I left home, arrive at show at 8.15 (Bruce on stage at 8.17pm, yemanja in her 3rd row seats loses it and the tears flow freely), arrive back at The Jupiter at 11.00pm, had a drink there for an hour or so with friends in what I presume was the Doug Fir lounge, go to bed, get up the next morning and leave at 9.00am for Seattle and my next Springsteen show.

How ironic indeed!! So in fact even though I have been to Portland, it was so brief that I don't even count it as a real visit and I had even forgotten the name of the hotel until you mentioned it greg so thanks so much for this info. And thanks also sunset swimmer for the info about the Hilton, sounds very nice Smiler

As for coming up to Seattle, sadly can't make it this time due to another hot date with Mr Springsteen in Milwaukee on Aug 30th (me, him and about 50,000 others Big Grin)

You can make up for being off topic by writing I LOVE TIM on yours the next time you're there yemanja. Smiler Big Grin

That hotel sounds convenient.

Bummer that you can't make Tim's show this time around yemanja, but here's hoping that we get to catch him on this side of the world sometime later this year.

I'm assuming that his US shows will include new material (or I'm hoping so Smiler) so I'm dying to get reviews from the lucky people who'll be going to see him. Big Grin

Hooray Big Grin.

Didn't want to go through withdrawal after Crowded House next week...can now make it through the long, hot Summer knowing Tim is on the way!

He promised to make up that canceled Pittsburgh show, so there must be more shows in this half of the country to be announced, right?
