Sometimes I wish Tim could be the frontman of a great rock band without any Phils or Neils involved. It's not a dis on the Enz, it's just that there are such strong ties with other songwriters/leaders there! Of course he's a great solo artist, but I think Tim is a natural bandleader, and I think that there's a part of him that thrives in that role. First among collaborators, as opposed to being a solo artist where often you're essentially the only voice among a bunch of hired guns.

With Eddie Vedder on backing vocals (their version together of Stuff and Nonsense was brilliant!); Charlie Watts on drums (unfairly over shadowed by Mick Jagger and Keef in my opinion); John Deacon from Queen - guitarist - cos he has shown he can provide subtle, sometimes understated but always enhancing support to a showman without sacrificing his own musicality, and write songs too; and, ok, probably need some people of more recent vintage too.......

He's used a chick bass palyer before, so I volunteer for the next job. I can even do the background vocals and percussion. Yup, yup. Big Grin

Not realistic you say? Since when has that ever stopped a dream! Smiler

Geez! And here I thought you were going to volunteer for the guitar slot, ip2! Big Grin

Just imagine Tim with an all-girl band, but only the best ones, of course. He could totally do the suit and tie Robert Palmer thing. It would be good for a lark.

Actually Tim with an all girl band is something I've never even thought of.

Would you be willing to do those really short skirts aika? Big Grin

I'm hoping that no matter who else his next band has, he'll go for Mareea (sp?) Patterson. I really enjoyed her being in his band.

It just means he may have to have two bassists aika. Wink

We could play "Big Bottom". *much snickering*

I've been reading discussions on TalkBass about bands with two bassists. There aren't many, but hey... wouldn't be the first time Tim's been a leader with a concept. Besides, I really enjoy playing with other bassists, such as when my teacher plays something more like "lead bass" while I lay down a groove. Fun stuff!

Aaaanyhow... I think I've hijacked the read. Uh, back to everyone else.

I suppose the crux of it for any musician is getting the right people for the job (ie sound, competence etc). Plus those whose personalities fit in.

An all-girl band with Tim is something I'd really like to see, now that the thought is out there, but above all I want to hear great music. Smiler

I don't know if I would like an all girl band, but I really can't give you a definitive reason why? Roll Eyes Not much good, am I?! Big Grin

Dunno, it's not that girls aren't good musos. Bowie had a brilliant female bass player when he was here. Can't remember her name but boy she could play...

I just think somehow that if you've got a great band behind you it gives you a platform, a boost, you can push further than you can by yourself or with a bunch of session whizzes, no matter how talented they are.
