re: Tim's last myspace blog, has anyone heard about this before? and are there going to be shows outside of NZ?

Tim has mentioned it in at least one other blog, though not with great detail, so the recent mention in itself is not a complete surprise. As he mentioned preproduction or rehearsals happening in Melbourne, I do have a strong suspicion that it will be performed outside of NZ.

Aika essentially beat me to it. He hasn't said much about it, just one of the things he's been working on for a while now. Eddie also seems to be involved, and performances were suggested for Melbourne (and I think Sydney) for early '09 when it was originally mentioned.

With a lack of any further information or detail, I'm assuming this is kind of like Mama Mia the musical? A story based around a song.

I'd be interested to know a couple of things. One, if the name is the only connection to Tim, and two, whether there will be new songs for it, and three, whether Tim will be writing them all. (Three things).

I hope this doesn't hold up his new album, which he'd be welcome to practice in Melbourne Big Grin

Presumably there will eventually be publicity around this, so I guess we wait and see.

It's definitely something that Tim is working on, his baby so to speak. Who else may be collaborating on it to make it more in the musical genre is another question of course.

I definitely don't think it will interfere with the new album. I get the impression that Tim's really in his element right now in terms of creativity, and that he seems to thrive when working on several things at once.

I'm really excited about what's coming up for Tim and us (the fans). Poor Boy will probably generate quite a bit of interest around the man and I think that Echo Chamber will be a killer album if the tracks I've heard are anything to go by. I think that The Saw And The Tree is one of the best Tim Finn songs I've heard, and the demos from myspace all have lots of potential too (p.s there is another one up now, called Who Owns The Song?).

Just read this thread for the first time and not to brag or anything, but was talking to Tim this morning who when I said I was returning to Melbourne today mentioned that he had just been here for a week (and of course he commented on our very hot weather of late!). So this is obviously the reason as to why he was here and further proof that I need to spend less time working and more time reading all the threads here on the forum Wink

I'll probably go along and have a look at this production out of curiosity.

Its probably not going to be as intensely Tim as I'd like, however it will be interesting I'm sure.

Time spent on the Forum always seems to be a wise investment yemanja (in case you're needing any encouragement). Big Grin

Not any more real news except the article says "quite a few Split Enz songs" etc. I'd definitely take this in if I could. Sounds like it'll be very cool.

In both Seattle and Portland, Tim mentioned the upcoming play and seemed pretty excited by it. He says it's not a musical, but rather a play with singing in it.

So MTC and STC are gonna "give it a whirl" Wink
Can't help but wonder if it will make it up to Queensland - perhaps with the QTC. If anybody hears any news about this, please let us know.
Of course, I would go to Sydney or Melbourne to see it, anyway.

PS - I think this post just took me from Pitied Rhino to Loungeroom Lizard. YAAAAAAY!

And now also the Melbourne Theatre Company.

http://www.mtc.com.au/tickets/production.aspx?performanceNumber=1682

The director was also talking about having a pre 2009 season weekend party to celebrate their move to the new theatre, featuring the Finn play.

I've a mate working in the theatre, which is just up the road from where I worked, so who knows? Maybe a preview or a 'chance' sighting may come my way?! Big Grin

By the looks of the photo in that link, I'd venture a guess that Astounding Moon might be one of the songs included in this. Smiler

Small article in today's Herald Sun about the MTC Season Launch.

I can't find it on the internet so here's what it said -

"MTC also showed off plans for the new $55 million theatre in Southbank. It's opening performance will be Poor Boy, a play opening on January 27 starring another home-grown talent Guy Pearce and featuring songs from Crowded House muso Tim Finn."

"Split Enz muso Tim Finn" would have been more appropriate but they did include a small picture!!

Guy Pearce? Frowner

I don't like or dislike him, but he's not someone I'd fall over myself to see.

I might wait to hear what others think about this before I commit myself.

Apparently Tim was a guest at the MTC season opening party and sang Poor Boy. What a bonus for all those attending.

He sang low rather than the high notes of Poor Boy - his vice must be tired after all that touring.
