We all know that whatever Tim's next album is like, it will be unlike anything he's done before - while still preserving that throughline of essential Timness that we've come to crave and glory in. But the question is, when you imagine hearing the new album, WHICH of his previous albums do you most want it to remind you of?

Oooh goody, another poll
I voted Imaginary Kingdom, simply because I hope that the natural progression of things has moved him on from there, but with the last lingering notes still there to be built on, or followed on from. I wanted to vote Escapade ( Texas Rose |

I had to go with Feeding The Gods - Great songs, great instruments, uptempo feelings, just good time heads down pop-rock!

preceding and subsequent to everything there will always be Before and After :-D

I have the feeling Echo Chamber it will be closer in terms of feel & production to Imaginary Kingdom - which was kind of a mix of Semi-Classical pop & suited Tim to be honest but perhaps a bit more spartan & acoustically led - but I'm prepared to be wrong
My personal favourite has to be Say It Is So - a great collection of songs produced & arranged in a way to bring out the best out of them. If Tim's happy I'm sure I will be |

Great idea Mr Sadly. I'd have to agree from all I've heard so far that Echo Chamber will probably be more like IK than anything else, and that doesn't upset me in the slightest because I fell in love with it from first listen. I don't think I'll ever forget my first listen (thought it was my third listen to some songs apart from Couldn't be done since I'd already heard Tim do them recording Live @ Yours and at the IK World Premiere show), it seemed like it was written just for me at the time. From the songs Tim's done at his US shows earlier in the year and his demos, this does seem to have a more whimsical quality to it, although now that Eddie and Miles will be working with Tim it will be interesting to see the influences they will have on it.
Having said that, I actually voted for his eponymous album. It's usually a toss up between it and IK as to which is my favourite album, but for the moment I'm liking the sense of struggle and triumph that comes with many of the tracks on Tim Finn. In some ways Saw to the Tree could almost fit on this album, so who knows ... I'm certainly interested to hear what others have to say on it all! ******* Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind I like to sit with you and talk for hours |

Looking at the poll results so far - currently a tie between IK and the self-titled album. I voted for the latter, but it was a difficult choice!

I've just put the Self-Titled album ahead.
I'd really like a sort of fusion between IK and TF, and it looks like that might be where we're heading, at least with the songwriting. Really looking forward to the album - songs I've heard have been good. I really really love Saw and the Tree. "Cabbage for Lobster" |

I also voted for IK. B&A is an old love, just acquired and loving TF, but find Escapade a bit dated and haven't got a handle on SIIS and FTG.
TALOAFOS (that's a lot of acronyms for one sentence) I loved loved loved Imaginary Kingdom when it first came out. It's a mature, solid effort and this may seem ridiculous for a man in his mid-50s, but it really feels like Tim has found his stride with this effort. I'd love to see the new album follow in those footsteps. |

I love IK and I'd be happy if Echo Chamber sounds like it. And I love B&A too.
But I voted vor Tim Finn, because that is my favourite album, and I can imagine hearing this style again, maybe with an acoustic touch, or sort of "live" in the studio. A very intimate sound for the slower songs, and a rocking for the uptempo ones. Hmmm, dreaming on. _____________________ The Belgian chocolate industry has been taken over completely by the Swiss - Neil Finn, Paris, 21/10/2007 |

And, bam! TF back in the lead again. All this excitement is too much so early in the morning.

I voted for Imaginary Kingdom because it's the natural progression and because it's my favourite. Much as I love his eponymous album, IK is still his best to date, IMNSHO.

I think the answer is that it will sound like a most acoustic Imaginary Kingdom. However, I voted for Feeding the Gods because that was the first time since the Enz that Tim really proved his worth as a songwriter AND a rock star.
That being said, I think the new album will be nice because it sounds like it won't be overproduced like most of Tim's work in the 80's and 90's. ***Round 6 is here!*** Click it and Tick it! http://frenzforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7311061171/m/6...351041045#7351041045 |

Getting Somewhere |
I voted for IK. This is the kind of album that feels timeless and mature. Winter Light and Astounding Moon, on an ideal planet, would be standards played by all the top vocalists. In days of yesteryears, Ella, Sinatra, Clooney, Sarah Vaughn, and the like would have jumped head over heels for these gorgeous songs.
Tim Finn and Before and After are very close seconds. I love Big Canoe as well but timelessness regarding production is not one of its attributes. ..the hills will breathe like a baby pulled up heaving from the bottom of the ocean ... |

The good thing about Tim's albums is that there's always a new direction with each album. Its a win/win situation for us fans.
I remember Tim saying in an interview many years ago, that we can always expect something new from Split Enz. I think that's the case with Tim as well. Each of his albums seem to reflect where he was at that particular point in time. In my opinion, we have something exciting to look forward to because whether the new album reminds us of something previous or not, it will be unique in its own right, and a reflection of where he is now, which I think is a very exciting place. Having said all that, I'm glad to see IK holding its own in the poll We're like a bunch of happy little people racing these albums along on their cute little legs towards the finish line. I voted for Tim Finn because it just has that shimmer for me. It was the first Tim album I ever knew. I even had a NOT EVEN CLOSE bumper sticker!

Just voted for IK. Twas a toss up between that and TF, but I really, really love IK... I listened to it every night for a loooooong time after a friend sent it to me. It is a wonderful feeling to fall asleep to Astounding Moon, I must say. (And don't take that the wrong way!)
Precious, precious thing, you are the song that makes me sing... Neil: "Ashley Dean, where is she? Thank you Ashley for your kind words." |

I keep checking the results too
I wish we could vote twice. I'd drop one for Escapade. And incidentally, if his new album did end up sounding (musically, not productionally) like Escapade, songs of a similar ilk, I'd probably throw a party. And I'm not a party person. Otherwise, nice to see IK streaking ahead. Ashley N.F. wrote:
