Now that Imaginary Kingdom's been out long enough for all you guys to listen to it, I have decided to set up a poll for the favourite Tim Finn album.

I really feel like Tim last three albums have really made him into an artist. While there are some good songs on his pre-Sat It Is So albums he still seemed to be acting and writing like a pop star and not an artist. Say It Is So is so very experimental which can makes parts hard to listen to. Imaginary Kingdom has the best ballads he's ever done. For me, Feeding the Gods has a mixture of the two and that's why it's my favorite.

I can't say. It depends on the mood I'm in. I love them all.

Well, to be completely honest, I only have two of TF's solo albums that being Imaginary Kingdom & Escapade... however I could not resist going for the personal fav out of these two.

Plus I'm slightly bias... why? Coz despite some very good songs on one of those albums, my fav TF solo album contains my fav TF solo song of all time! And that rates higher than any song that TF wrote with Neil or any Split Enz song!

I love the ballads on Imaginary Kingdom. But I also love the rockier songs on Feeding the Gods, its a close one but I have gone for Feeding the Gods.

For Feeding The Gods to have done so well in the poll shows what a strong album is was, as it was only released in Aus and NZ.

Its a real shame Tim is not playing some of the rockier tracks off Feeding The Gods cos I reckon its some of the very best stuff he has ever done.

Yep - Escapade. However if I could have had two votes I would have also included Imaginary Kingdom.

I voted for Imaginary Kingdom. I first heard some of it live in Auckland on October 4 & 6, and listened to the album on my MP3 player much of the next day. I received some bad news after returning from the concert, and so I took myself to my favourite beach and listened, and cried. So many of the songs seemed to be written for me and what had happened in my life, and they had a special resonance being on "my" beach in New Zealand, where I could see the very horizon Tim had mentioned the night before when he introduced the song.

Having said that, it is somewhat hard to single just one out because I love all of his solo work. Even SIIS and FTG, which took longer to grow on me, have songs I now love. However his self-titled album would probably have to come second.

Feeding the Gods, its got the power.
Probably then Imaginary Kingdom and Escapade.

I voted Tim Finn. It's the one I put on most, so I guess this must be my favourite, but I also like Imaginary Kingdom, Before & After, and Escapade very much.

I would have to say the Tim Finn album too - it's the first one I bought on cassette many moons ago, and I'm really hoping he's going to sing something from that album when I see him live in a couple of weeks.

It was released in the US long before it was released in Australia, with a pink cover and a longer edit of one of the songs, can't remember which now.

I voted for the eponymous album

I only have two Tim albums (Escapade and self-titled) but my favourite is the self-titled. Looking forward to Big Canoe, Before & After and Imaginary Kingdom.

"Before and After" for me, there are some amazing songs on there, particularly "Persuasion", which is a really cherished song for me.
The mix of producers creates a rich palette of music, I also love "Protected" (although it doesn't sound quite so strong live), the pre-ALT "Many's the Time", and "In Love with it All" which is a Finn Bros pre-Woodface song (although I think Tim does both vocal parts on the final recording).

In second place for me would be the wonderful "Imaginary Kingdom", followed by the eponymous "Tim Finn" (with the wistful 'How'm I Gonna Sleep').

I must say I go for Feeding the Gods also, though I would have liked to vote for Tim Finn, purely for the excitement of using the word eponymous but I have to admit I don't own that album .

I suppose I'd better go find a copy somewhere - lots of people love it, but it's just slipped under my radar.

I do love FTG. Even though it's not eponymous.

I have to admit I was disappointed in "Feeding the Gods", the only song that really jumped out at me from that album was "Subway Dreaming" - an outstanding tune.
"Tim Finn" (studiously avoided the E-word there, I guess you can overuse it! ) is a great album, get it fast. The production is a wee bit 80s (not as bad as 'Big Canoe' in that respect) but the songs shine through, particularly stuff like "Parihaka", "Not Even Close" and "How'm I Gonna Sleep". (The latter 2 sound great live).

Well I'd Like To Also Put In A Equal Vote For Both Escapade and IK

Wow - talk about a tought poll!!! I was really stuck between IK and FTG. The ballads (AM, STTS, Un, WL, DF) on IK are fantastic and there are some great pop moments (CBD, SP, STS, MC). There is only one song on that album that doesn't work for me and that is Show Yourself.

FTG rocks in a way that neither Finn has in the past.Say It Is So is probably my favourite Tim song. The whole album is so vital and such an affirmation of music and life.

In the end I went for IK but I would like to have cast a vote for both. I also realy like the eponymous album and have a soft spot for SIIS which I think is flawed but was an important experimental phase that spawned IK and FTG.

The other solo albums area a mixed bag in my view. I like some Escapade songs, most notably Not for NOthing and Wait and See but find the album a bit lightweight.

Big Canoe is ambitious and has some excellent tracks (Hyacinth, Timmy, No Thunder, Carve You In Marble, etc) but also a couple of clangers (Are We On or Are We Two). I still listen to it but the production dates it terribly)

Before and After is a mixed bag also. In Love With It All is stunning as is Walk You Home and a couple of others.

Collectively his solo career however has been fantastic but has really come to fruition with the last two albums. He is so versatile and full of ideas - most of which he pulls off.

I agree he is really an artist now rather than a pop star and I really believe that his best may be yet to come.

I love both the Finns but for me it is Tim who has really grown as a writer over the past five years. I would never write off Neil - anyone who can create a masterpiece like Together Alone has a lot more cookies in the jar but it is Tim who has excited more in recent times.

I can appreciate that point of view for sure, I guess I'm used to the traditional Finn Bros approaching of crafting infectious melodies, so perhaps FTG is about rocking out!

Absolutely second that. His is an eclectic collection of songs, he's obviously unafraid to experiment, which is admirable.
