Just kidding, I just don't know what you see in that album.

Where do I start...? Wink

His voice.

The songs (tunes).

The lyrics to the songs.

Tim himself at that point in time.

Putting aside the production etc of Escapade, and I do because I tend to accept the songs as they're presented, I think it was a fabulous album full of fabulous songs. I loved the way the songs fitted Tim's voice, and the life that him singing them gave to them.

Everything about it really.

I guess the bottom line is that it struck a chord in me at a particular time.

I love his later work, and I think that Imaginary Kingdom is absolutely outstanding, but Escapade holds a really special place in my heart and always will. Don't know that I can define it any further than that.

Don't know that you'd want me to try Roll Eyes Razzer Wink

This hread made me listen to IK again, something I had't done for a while.
And I still like it a lot, I think it would be hard to choose between the 2 of them (IK and Escapade.. and so I didn't! Wink

TR, have you checked your PM's lately??

Actually, Texas Rose's post was so stirring, it had me listening to Escapade again.

i think i voted for 'Before & After' when this thread started, but I have recently been falling in love with 'Feeding The Gods'.
can't get into 'Big Canoe', but the rest all have their place....
the only album I don't have is 'Escapade'.
worth getting?

These days, I find myself preferring Escapade over his other albums. It really is a great album, not a bad track I think. Big Canoe is a good one too.

I'd also like to point out no one paid me to say this! Wink

Did Les Patterson ever get released on CD? I'd love to have a copy but haven't a clue how to go about finding it.

I'm another Escapade supporter. I just feel that it's got a continuity (in terms of style and quality) from start to finish which some of Tim's other albums lack. Sure, it's a tad dated but it's still good, positive pop music.

The first half of Imaginary Kingdom is, in my opinion, magnificent - up with the best work of Tim's career. However, I feel some of the tunes on the 2nd half are unmemorable and come across as rushed.

Before and After is well-worth getting but the different producers leave me feeling a bit confused if I listen to it from beginning to end.

Big Canoe - approach with caution! There are a few good tunes in there but the sound is so much of its time and, if you weren't around for the 80s, you might find it difficult to relate to. Carve You In Marble is still a goody, though!

The self-titled album is up there too with Tim's vulnerability and honesty coming right through. Show A Little Mercy and Not Even Close are great songs almost 20 years later.

I'm going to risk a flaming by saying I can't get into Feeding the Gods at all ... Believe me, I've tried but, for me, it's just not the Tim I Like!

My advice to anyone who's thinking about investigating Tim's back catalogue - get 'em all and make your own mind up!

Can't agree with you more on this. For me every single one of his albums has its particular time. I love them all for different reasons. It's a pity that you can't get into FtG as I can listen to it for hours over and over again and won't get tired. That's my only problem with IK. I love the emotional quality of IK, but because it's so soothing and lush in parts I often drift from listening closely. Btw., I like the second half of IK better than the first.

@Painaporo: Never heard of a CD release of "Les Patterson". But since I found "Below the Belt" as a mp3 track lately (at www.hypem.com) and loved it, I'm seriously thinking about buying a record player.

In casting my vote for my favourite album, I was suprise to see that more haven't picked Imaginary Kingdom. I love them all, however there is something magic about this one. But each to their own I guess, thank Tim for making an experience.

Before and After's no longer my fav, having been replaced by the magnificent Say It Is So. Nuff said.

Imaginary Kingdom, it's the one that got me into Tim's solo material. I loved Split Enz and his work with Crowded House & Everyone is Here. But I wasn't taken with what i heard of his solo material. The cover intrigued me, it seemed to harken back to the Enz. Listening to it, I felt Tim had made a beautiful Pop album and I think he's best when he's making pop music, and this is really nice pop music. It gave me an entry into his solo material that I am slowly developing.

Looks like the poll results are skewed as i just voted for IK but it is still showing up as 0.

I think the 0 goes with the category below ("I don't know"). Looks like IK has a very respectable 27% at the moment. Smiler

I wish you could change votes on this thread! Every time it gets bumped, I've gone and changed my favourite Tim Finn record again. At the moment, it's his self-titled one. I even went through a period earlier this year where I listened to Big Canoe practically non-stop!

Interesting that there is a vote each for "Can't Say" (fair enough), and "None of Them" (so why visit if you're not a Tim fan? Razzer Big Grin

I probably voted Escapade, and would still stand by that vote, but like Khanada would love to be able to drop another vote. I'd got for Imaginary Kingdome. Really love that album.

Just think, hopefully before very much longer we'll have to conduct this poll again, with a brand new album to also consider. Big Grin

How every exciting!

Nice, my first post and I produce a clanger, IK is doing very well indeed. Thanks for the welcome Hyacinth. It's nice to be here, I only just discovered this site.

I'm first a Split Enz fan, but I am very much a fan of all three major song writers and am very glad they are all continuing on. And I'm finally discovering Tim's solo work. I hadn't liked Fraction too much Friction & so avoided Escapade when it came out, got Big Canoe which I liked just Ok and then left it at that until I got Imaginary Kingdom last year and really liked it.

I saw Tim in Concert with Bic Runga and Dave Dobbyn which was an excellent concert. It's strange to have overlooked so much work that was staring me in the face. Nice though to have it to explore now. Those Enzers have given us a huge body of good work.

Hi and welcome from me too Boris - I'm sorry, I hadn't noticed you were new Roll Eyes

It was actually due to your post that I went back and had another look at the results (I read your post but did not look at the number of posts!).

Its good that your interest in Tim has grown to the point at which you are now. Smiler

IK was an outstanding album, and not wanting to put too much pressure on Tim, but I'm sure we're all expecting something at least as good as that. Smiler And I for one don't think we will be disappointed.

And wouldn't some people be disappointed if I didn't take this opportunity for yet another shameless plug - although you weren't gripped by FTMF, if you haven't already, you simply must have a listen to Escapade. Big Grin Wink Razzer
