I remember watching those Countdown Awards but I don't remember any problems. Maybe I was watching a repeated showing - well, it was the 80's, I can't remember! Smiler

Wow, Best Pop Male Performer of the year, Best Recorded Songwriter of the year and Album of the year. Not a bad year for Tim was 1983!! Big Grin

Yes, and I do believe Tim felt bad about that ... not that many people remember that side of the equation.

I suspect that the stuff-up might not have made it to the TV audience. To quote Chunn

quote:
pp. 244-5. “It was awards time again in Melbourne, and Split Enz were in the final nominations for Group of the Year, which you will recall they had won the year before. They took their seats in a row, Tim sitting next to Neil Split Enz didn't win. But Tim, as a solo artist, wan Male Performer of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Album of the Year, the clip for ‘Fraction Too Much Friction’ won Video of the Year, and Fataar and Moffatt took Producers of the Year. Performing 'In A Minor Key'. During the ceremony, Tim was in control. He was singing live to a mimed piano part when the tape suddenly stopped. in a moment of extraordinary 'cool', in front of a national television audience, he said 'Let's wind it back' and told a few jokes while the tape was corrected. His eyes were open. And the sweat dried from his palms. He then sang the song in toto and left the stage. The night was his.”

Thanks Mummakook, that's what I remembered reading, but I hadn't looked it up in the book yet. Wink

Well I think Mike Chunn was right about Tim looking very confident, and it must have been a great night for him to receive all those awards.

This isn't an official video clip, but I think that every Tim fan should see this.

Not Even Close live on MTV Unplugged with Crowded House.

Good question, Six. I'd love to see them too. You'd assume that videos would have to exist since they were both singles.

Actually, I'd like to add Persuasion to that list. I know there's a clip because I was just watching bits of it in an interview.

There is definately a clip for No Thunder, No Fire, No Rain, Tim talks about it in an interview that I have about Big Canoe. It is directed by Gerard De Thame.

I'm pretty sure that there is also a clip for Spiritual Hunger.

I think I need to hire you as a research assistant! Mind you, I haven't listened to that interview for a looooong time.

Here's hoping these clips surface somewhere, somehow ... since it seems some of us might have a while to wait for any new Tim goodness or tours.

Considering that the rest of the Escapade videos were recently posted on YouTube, then we should hope the Big Canoe videos will follow suit.

A VERY RELIABLE source has told me that a clip for that song does indeed exist.

There are indeed clips for No Thunder, Spiritual Hunger and Persuasion. I have them on VHS in varying degrees of picture quality. Spiritual Hunger is prob my fave... I mean Phil's in it.. what more could ya want? Persuasion is good too.. Tim having fun in a car... women and flowers... pretty cool. It's been a long time since I've watched No Thunder, but I think it starts with Tim washing dishes..

Someone should upload those to YouTube if they have them, that would be a real treat for those who haven't seen any of them.

That would indeed be wonderful, even if the quality is dubious it would be better than nothing.

For anyone after some of Tim's other less accessible clips, there are a number residing in an undisclosable location that you may wish to peruse at your leisure.

Well done EE, I was quite remiss in mentioning this when someone brought it to my attention on Christmas Day. About the best present I got I think (apart from those I bought myself). Big Grin
