Then you'll be able to hum along in a Minor Key. Or just flats & sharps like me.

And it's not even in A minor Big Grin It's in F# minor.

Even though I don't particularly like Escapade, I'd buy a remastered version just for In A Minor Key and Fraction Too Much Friction (and I only own it on lp). As long as Big Canoe is quickly remastered after it.

Must be a Timbo musical joke. A bit like Mozart & his. Big Grin

A Minor Key, is probably a better title than F# Minor Key. I'd buy a remaster for Back Through The Years, & Staring At The Embers (irispective of what key it's in). & i agree that Big Canoe needs some remastering. It suffers from that 80's overproduction for overproductions sake thing. I'm sure there's a much better album waiting beneath the linn drums, & Fairlight samples.

Anyone for waffles? Smiler

Surely you mean remix rather than remaster Big Canoe Seany? I think Big Canoe is fine as it is. It's a product of 1986 and yes it shows but isn't one purpose of music is to encapsulate the period it was performed in?

Remastering will clean the sound up and perhaps add more depth and clarity but it won't remove the fairlights and linn drums! Remixing on the other hand would but what to replace them with? Nah, just leave it alone.

I do agree that a decent Best of Tim Finn is a necessity. It would be far easier if the bugger kept on the one record label but hey, problems are meant to be solved. Give it a nice mastering job, decent sleevenotes (a great idea would be to have Tim annotate the songs himself) and you got a great album. And one which will be debated for years to come on this very forum! Wink

I quite like Fraction as a song (particularly how the verses and chorus are in different keys)... it's the video I have serious issues with! I finally realised the devil fella is causing friction, but overall the clip is nowhere near the standards of the Enz offerings.

I agree with Daz, a remix would be nice, but there wouldn't be much to work with compared with the Enz records. I'll be happy if the backing singers in "Made My Day" are mixed down ... they always freak me out a bit!

i wanted the escapade album so bad when i was a 5 year old kid in 1984. I remember i cracked my head open at primary school when i was in prep and had to get a tetnus shot. For being brave mum said she would buy me a present, i wanted Escapade but she wouldn't buy it for me, she got me a He-Man figure instead which i was not at all happy with. Ah well

Good point dazz. I was going to suggest a Timbo Accoustic version of Escapade, but i can almost hear the howls of dirision from here! Eeker

I think a remix would be good, some of those samples sound a might cheesy & overdone these days. So why not get Tim to do one of those Liberation Accoustic Series. I'm just imagining hearing Minor Key (F#Minor to some) done with accoustic guitar & Tim. Could be good. Although i still have no idea what James Reyne is singing, even when he's gone accoustic. Eeker

Actually that would be a great idea for Tim (or Neil) to do an album for Liberation's Acoustic series but alas, I don't see it happening. As far as I know Tim is on EMI (as part of The Finn Brothers) so in order for Tim to record it, he'd have to get permission from them. Not impossible though, just a legal pain in the butt.

Of course EMI wouldn't let Neil record for Liberation's series! EMI would want that album for themselves and why wouldn't they?

I agree James Reyne is hard to understand although I do get the gist of what he's saying. Thank God for lyric sheets (when they supply them)! By the way, completely off topic but have you noticed that singers who are hard to understand or comprehend usually don't have lyrics printed on their covers? Yes I'm looking at you Mr Cobain and your "Nevermind"....

Well i think that would be possible for Tim & or Neil to do an accoustic album for Liberation. Many of the artists on this series were on different labels at one time or another. I know The Church have been on about 3 different labels, & the songs on their accoustic album cover various periods of their career. But then why would one want to.

It would be good to have a Remastered Cd that also includes the filum clips from the album as well. I know the remastered Church albums did this, with all video clips from all the albums being included with the remasters. A pretty cool idea me thinks. Cool

Not sure what Kurt was on about on Nevermind. Perhapse the album title says it all really.

"I Only Want to Know" if it will be remastered, but then i guess we will have to "Wait & See" *groan* Roll Eyes

the secret of a great song is if it can be played acoustically on a guitar or a piano, without any embellishment. well that's my view

Absolutely right Mr. Rutle. And seeing as the brothers Finn have played acoustic a million times, I'd say let's stick a piano, tambourine (if necessary), two acoustic guitars and a couple of microphones in a room.

You go get Neil and Tim, I'll set up the DAT and we'll record it tomorrow afternoon. This may read flippantly but it wouldn't take that long to record it with these guys.

And you just know it's gonna be great.

Live from your loungeroom hey Dazz?
Don't forget to bring a video camera as well. Big Grin

I think that's why i enjoyed the She Will Have Her Way tribute album so much. It was a real testament to how great the songs were, when seen in a different light.

Look you'd want to add a drum kit to that set up Dazz. After seeing Timbo's Waveaid drum & guitar combo, i think you'd want to get that on tape. Specially for Fraction To Much Friction. Smiler

No not yet and I'm getting slighty miffed. Kettle's been boiling for ages now, the Tim Tams are now melting and it seems I wasted a whole morning cleaning the couch again. Somehow I don't think it's gonna happen today.

Although perhaps if I told Tim and Neil about it, maybe I wouldn't have this problem. Roll Eyes

Even my brother liked Fraction, and he's never really been a Tim fan. I do remember him saying at the time that it was a "cool" song Big Grin

I understand what you're saying Kazzie. There were songs on SIIS that I didn't like but I'm still a massive fan. That happens sometimes I guess.

I just hope that Escapade wouldn't end up being considered too produced, or too dated, if they do a Tim Best Of. It was his break-through solo. I think it speaks for itself Wink

I think should they ever do a comprehensive "Best Of" of Tim's work, that they've got to include at least one song from Escapade, regardless of how "dated", (I prefer "different") it sounds now.

I personally love Escapade because it sounds "different" - sure I don't like all the songs on it, but it was his first solo album, and it was made 23 years ago, of course it sounds different to the music made since then, but at the time it would've been "state of the art" so to speak.

Again, should a comprehensive "Best Of" be released, I'd choose "Fraction" and also possibly "Staring At The Embers" and "In A Minor Key" to be included from Escapade.

Ultimately though, those "in the know" will choose the songs, regardless of my opinion, but they're my choices.

...Fizzy.

Whoops sorry TR - got carried away!

But it would be senseless for a Tim Finn retrospective to not add weight to Escapade. It is his biggest commercial success and it's still a fine album. You'd have to include half the album (Fraction Too Much Friction, Made My Day, In A Minor Key, Staring At The Embers and Through The Years) because these were genuine hits. Not to mention they are great songs. Even if he re-records a couple of them, they must be on there.

Don't diss the Escapade people!!

(NB I should admit that I maintain his 1989 self titled effort is his finest hour but I'll stand up for anybody who wishes to argue for Escapade)

Shame Timbo didn't rock up yesterday to record that unplugged version of Escapade. Still, at least he knows your loungeroom is rockin' & ready for his arrival.

Hope you found a bit of loose change down the back of the couch when you were tidying up for the accoustic gig. Finding a couple of gold coins would at least make the whole enterprise worth your while. Big Grin

Hmm, Escapade is a nostalgic fave, but i tend towards, FTG & SIIS at the moment. Look it could be just a phase. I'm sure it will pass.

I found something behind the couch but unfortunately I had to bury it as it smelt a bit off.

Anyway before Ms.Rose catches us again, I shall stray back on to the subject...

....um, Escapade is very good...(that should do it)
