I'd love to see it remastered! 'Below The Belt' aside, were there any other non-album B-sides on the Escapade singles?
Warners should follow on from the Enz remasters with "Remasters: Other Enz". That way we could have the likes of the Swingers' Practical Jokers/Counting The Beat and Juddsy's Private Lives remastered (and hopefully expanded!) Gav Obama |

Yep, if we were going to have bonus tracks on this, they'd be:
— "Another Chance" (B-side of Australian "Made My Day" 7") — "Staring at the Embers" (extended version — Australian 12" single A-side) — "Fraction Too Much Friction" and "Below the Belt" (live — A- and B-side of bonus 7" with special double pack of "In a Minor Key" Netherlands 7" . . . wonder what gig these tracks came from? Might be more.) There's also a Australian promo interview disk that could make a nice bonus. |

There is??? Wow - Id love to hear that. I've had Escapade on vinyl since Moses was a twinkle in his dad's eye, but managed to snaffle another copy on Ebay, which apparently was some sort of promotional thing, where the cover was actually a fold-out. From memory I think it also had a lyrics sheet (I'll have to get it out and have another look). Its kind of being treated like buried treasure at the moment I love discovering things about Escapade now that I had no idea about then. Would love to hear that interview. Thanks for brining it up Vortex Texas Rose |

Bump.
Sorry to bump up a thread that was considered dead but has anyone seen this album any where in Adelaide as of late??? I couldn't carry out the transaction with Big Eye Records in Sydney as stated earlier in the thread due to a cash flow problem. ____________________________________________________________________________ And so, that's how it goes. I'm in Melbourne, not Adelaide, but I've seen copies of Escapade in various Borders stores around the city, so it might be worth giving them a try (although Borders can be a little more expensive than other stores).

With all this talk on Escapade, what was its highest chart position?

Bump away addict, no law that says it can't be revived.
Have you actually asked JB if they'll get it in for you? I've found in the past that they are excellent at doing this for you, and tend to have by far the best prices around. Otherwise, keep an eye out in various stores (big names and even smaller ones), as I've seen copies floating around here and there, often quite cheaply too. If all else fails, I'll be coming to Adeliade to see Tim in Feb, so could try to secure you a copy. Not sure about the album Six, but Fraction for to #6, Made My Day #25 and Staring at the Embers #43 according to a chart book I have access to. ******* Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind I like to sit with you and talk for hours |

Yes I did ask if JB in Rundle Mall could get it, but I can't get back into the city when it arrives until at least Jan 4th. I'm gonna try JB Elizabeth next week. I hope.
If I don't have a copy by at least Jan 30th, I'll let you know. And thanks. ____________________________________________________________________________ And so, that's how it goes. That's What I Call Love![]() |
*digs up an old thread* I tried to do this earlier and wrote a big long reply, only to have it vanish into cyberspace. Apparently even my computer has an issue with Escapade.
All that Escapade talk up in the other thread made me want to listen to it today with fresh ears, and discuss it. A couple of things that struck me: 1. I like it when a musician does a solo album that doesn't sound just like their previous work; otherwise why do a solo album (in my opinion)? Escapade rises to the challenge by not sounding Enz-y at all to me, except maybe Living In A Minor Key. 2. Generally I am a sucker for the dark and disturbing Tim songs, but the bright and happy songs on this album have a way of getting into my subconscious like some kind of mood-altering substance! I'm curious as to what newer people to the forum think, or any of you who posted previously in this thread - have your thoughts/opinions about Escapade changed in the past two years? I've mellowed slightly. It's a product of it's time. I can now add another song that I like off it to the list. So that brings it up to three, Fraction Too Much Friction, In A Minor Key and Through The Years. I much prefer Big Canoe to this album, but that's a personal choice. Looking at it in context, it's a bright happy slice of 1983 pop.

Huh - you should be so lucky Camus. For now, but I think you're on very shaky ground. I'm totally committed to Escapade, so it won't be the least bit surprising to hear that every time I listen to it, it reinforces my total devotion to it. I very much agreed with hyacinth's observation in point 2 of her post. Tim does tend to have some heavier undercurrents in some of his songs, but the songs on Escapade really were bright and happy. I love it to pieces. Texas Rose |

Yes. And the fact that I'd have no hope of catching you at the present moment. Seriously though, I am pleased that you have warmed to a couple of songs at least. I know that you more musical types have issues with production, and probably hear things that I wouldn't even think of to be looking for, but even so, if Tim decided to set the Melways to music and released it as an instrumental, I'd probably be raving about it. I love his stuff, and that's how it always was an always will be. Texas Rose |

I got hold of some Live stuff The Venue (Melbourne 83 - radio) & The Galaxy (Auckland 86 - bootleg) & it's amazing the vibe between the two gigs (although there is only 2 gigs to compare) I think Tim's white soul period (Escapade) was quite successful and better live - but Big Canoe with it's more darker intellectual pop was harder going live - Then again Tim shifted a lot more copies of Escapade.... |

Feeling old eh mate? Before I knew anyone had bumped this, I decided to listen to Escapade while I worked today as part of a belated celebration of Tim's birthday. I actually enjoyed it so much that I listened several times, especially to Minor Key and Not for Nothing, I'd forgotten about that one last night when I was trying to think about it. ******* Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind I like to sit with you and talk for hours |

I'd hazard a guess that the two live tracks (Fraction Too Much Friction/ Below The Belt) were from The Venue in Melbourne October 1983 - from the radio broadcast. If we're on the same point a remaster could add Home For My Heart & Strange Night or would they be better suited to a Remaster of Big Canoe? Was Fraction remixed when it turned up as a 12" or was that the standard album version? It's one I don't personally own and is as rare as rocking horse ****! |

I got the Mushroom Mid-Price Master edition and it doesn't sound that bad. Sure it's low in volume (as were the majority of CDs back then) but it's true to the original vinyl release. Maybe a bit more bass presence perhaps?
But I'd support a re-master treatment with all those extras. Bear in mind the 12inch mix of "Staring At The Embers" wasn't much cop anyway! But I'm not sure if the 12" of "Fraction..." was a remix or not as I didn't pick it up years ago when I saw it in a second-hand store. Wish I had of now. Have a suspicion it probably wasn't. |

Since I posted back in 2006 I managed to pick up a copy of that interview disc (vinyl). Of course I haven't listened to it - its too precious for that.
Once I've replaced the needle on my turntable, I might contemplate it. There's another copy for sale on Ebay, but its about $80.00 US I'd love to see this released as a bonus, as someone mentioned previously. But as much as I love Escapade, I can't see any record company going for this - I just don't think there would be enough of a market. I'd buy it of course, but I'm very sure that no matter what other category I may fall into, "market" is not one of them. Have I mentioned lately that I love Escapade?... Texas Rose |
