I got hold of some Live stuff The Venue (Melbourne 83 - radio) & The Galaxy (Auckland 86 - bootleg) & it's amazing the vibe between the two gigs (although there is only 2 gigs to compare) I think Tim's white soul period (Escapade) was quite successful and better live - but Big Canoe with it's more darker intellectual pop was harder going live - Then again Tim shifted a lot more copies of Escapade....

Yeah I've got both of those. It's not surprising that the songs from Big Canoe were harder to perform live, it's a pretty epic record. Also The VEnue is a soundboard recording yet the Galaxy recording is a pretty average audience recording, so I can't really tell from the Galaxy recording how good/bad the songs are presented from Big Canoe. I suspect if there was a soundboard recording of that gig the songs may come across a lot better.

I think the only way we'll get it remastered is for Tim to issue a "Best Of" selection. It's going to be difficult as he hops around labels like a mad rabbit. Then again maybe not, because EMI own both Capitol and Virgin don't they? And they have a good business relationship with Warners who now own Mushroom. Perhaps not so hard at all, but I'm not sure about his overseas deals.

Anyway the point is that most often than not when an artist puts out a compilation, 99.9% of the time it is remastered. OK it's not the entire catalogue but at least it's something. And considering Escapade was a genuine hit album (over half the tracks were chart singles in Australia), there will most definitely be a strong presence from his first solo album.

Of course what to put on there is another thread entirely. One I might start myself...

And with most compilations of this sort, there is also inevitably a 'bonus' disc of extras (rare stuff, B sides, live material etc.). Possibly even a DVD. Who knows? But a across the board "Best Of" will help in bringing the spotlight back on Tim.
