VIXEN - Phil Judd

I work so hard to find the spot -
(Wo-oh-woh-wo-wa, no-no.) What goes where and what does not.
(Wo-oh-woh-wo-wa) Feeding the fog at the bottom of the valley.
(Wo-oh-woh-wo-wa) Head in the clouds, at the tip of the mountain.

(Ah n-n-no) Sometimes you are the bug,
(N-n-no) Sometimes the windscreen.
(N-n-no) Sometimes you are the one -
(N-n-no) I wish I’d never seen.

N-n-no, I don’t need no lip from you,
Oh but you make my blood boil.
Yeh, you’re a vixen, vixen, always bitchin’,
A vixen – hitchin’ a free ride.

Yeh sometimes you are my ally,
Ah sometimes you are the foe.
Yeh whose side you were on,
I never really know.
Oh-woh-hoh (harmonica)

Yeh, you’re a vixen, vixen, always bitchin’,
A vixen, hitchin' a free ride.
Oh un-rec-qui-ted love
It’s the loneliest place on earth.
Oh-wah-oh un-re-cip-ro-cated love
It’s more trouble than it’s worth.

Yeh I-I-I-I-I I can see you’re lonely,
Well I-I-I-I-I I’m lonely too.

(harmonica solo)
(Oh no, n-n-no, n-n-no)
No-no-no, I don’t need no lip from you,
So you can get that look outta’ your eye.
I'm gettin dizzy (at) what you teasingly did,
Society makes me wanna cry!

Oh-uh-un-rec-qui-ted love,
It’s the loneliest place on earth.
Oh-oh-oh, un-re-cip-ro-cat-ed love
It’s more pain than it’s worth.

A vixen, vixen, always bitchin’
Vixen, hitchin’ a free ride.

Yeh sometimes you're wearin’ a thick skin
Sometimes you're fluf-fy, hey.
You point a stick at a cornered beast,
And see how far it gets you.
(Oh-woh-woh-woh) So pretty in her red fur.
(Oh-woh-woh-woh) She’s a vixen for sure.

(key change)
Going round, round, round.
Spinnin' round, & round & round.
Spinnin' round, round, round.
Spinnin' round & round & round.

(Woh-hoh-hoh)
- Tell it to someone who cares,
- Tell it to someone who hears.
- Lock yourself in a sound-proof room,
- Scream it out, shout it to the moon.
- And cry yourself a waterfall of tears
- Let it reverberate for a thousand years.

Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh.........

This song rocks. At 1st hearing thought it mean to say she's bitchin' but then pondered the man's attempts to please, which could never please (thanks to womens lib for ruining us), so she carries on doing what she does best - moaning at him.

I love the:

    "no-no-no"'s

    flipped out harmonica solo

clever, funny, real - "sometimes you are the bug, sometimes the windscreen"

"tell it to someone who cares, tell it to someone who hears..."
talk to the headphones dear, coz he aint 'listening'.

(Echoes of Justin Timberlake "Cry Me A River"... ie. had enuff)

The other thing I liked about this song is in the chorus:

...unrequited love
is the loneliest place on earth
&
...unreciprocated love it's more pain than it's worth...

Sadly had this 'one-way love' experience once, have never heard it expressed with those specific words. I relate to how it hurts like crazy to realise the truth of what you have.

Not only painful but so embarrassing - your heart ripped out, pulsating on the floor, dying & everyone else says 'Oh I knew it!' That is so unhelpful if you didn't. The other person is of course very worried - about themself.

Thankfully YOU lifted the veil of blindness (ie. 'love') long enough to re-engage your brain OLL & say 'bye bye'.

Aint love grand... Love is a many splendoured thing... Love hurts...

I love this sentiment - you know when you've had enough & that's all you can take. No matter how upset the other person is, you get beyond caring at all. Not to be heartless, but at some point you switch your compassionate heart off to protect yoursel from more hurt. That's what this reminds me of. They literally could cry for weeks (or a waterfall) & somehow you're just beyond caring a fig. You know those tears just won't change anything. What they have to say is no longer important, but finding your life again IS.

"Excuses have their uses,
But now they're all used up, all used..

Yes you've shown your feelings -
Yes you've shown your tough -
Said things worth believin'
Tears are not enough
Tears are not enough..." ABC

Grrr - it's a pet hate when people get lyrics wrong online - but even worse when it's yourself! Coz once you know them, you can't believe you didn't get it already!

So for those perfectionist freaks like me, sorry, but now I can't change it. Poo.

Correctionz:
"feet in the fog"

"oh god you make my blood boil..."

"I'm gettin dizzy watchin you chasin your tail
It's so sad it makes me wanna cry..."

What is that wierd red bird? I mean is that a real chook or was it doctored I wonder? I get the symbolism, a wingless chook innocently minding his own business, with the wicked fox eyeing him up from afar ready to munch... Nasty!

The line
'wooh...so pretty in her red fur'
seems to me to be a reference to his red headed ex wife
and continuing along this line of reasoning:
'always bitchin' ' and 'hitchin' a free ride' could be a summation at the end of a relationship.

The image of the bird in the lyrics looks to me like a plucked rooster (ie the male, plucked = naked, vulnerable) easy prey for the fox (vixen = female)
I know that my amateur psychoanalysis walks a fine line but maybe the rooster felt vulnerable:
'point a stick at a cornered beast..see how far it gets ya'

I have similar opinions about the first two verses of the song 'Love is a Moron'

Yes a vulnerable chook indeed, but surprisingly not utterly destroyed or defenceless - the reference to "point a stick at a cornered beast..." indicates musteringg enough strength to end it. Very brave. And enough strength to fight back if pushed past a certain point, for self-protection.

That's often the hardest part - we tend to hold on beyond what's healthy for all concerned, just to avoid being wrong or alone.

your amateur psychoanalysis was interesting, specially th3e red fur - red hair connex, thanks
