Does anyone know a real online mp3 download place for Schnell-ster album tracks? (Esp. "Ok Alright Uh Huh Oh Yeah" album??) There are false-promise-ers, who fail to deliver! Prefer downloads over a 2nd hand CD/ LP.
Does anyone know if Phil Judd has rights to the Schnellsters music? If so, has he considered putting them to work by putting them on Itunes??? I am so far behind the 8 ball and would like to catch up!! Only 19 years later... (Please please please!!) [Life is short; make it count.] |

I don't think that one was easy to get even when it was released (at least outside Australia it was tough to find).
The situation as I've heard it is that the Schnells were set up on a completely equal basis, with everything being split 4 ways and everyone having to agree on something for it to happen (Nige & Noel apparently didn't fancy going into another band where the singer/songrwriters got the lion's share of things...) Phil has said that he'd like to get these on iTunes, but it needs all 4 of them to give the go-ahead before that can happen. Then again, there's probably another 20 things on the business side that would have to happen before they actually saw the light of day again, but considering the Swingers album & the Death in Brunswick soundtrack are now available on iTunes, it could yet happen... I'm sure PG could give us a clearer picture of how much interest there is from the other guys in making the albums available again? (a not at all subtle hint there... Next stop, Private Lives! |

Yes go with un-sub-till hints - coz the back-catalog bus is late, late, late!
You sure put a lot of pressure on PG huh as the go-between... No doubt the mp3's will happen, just a matter of patience and persistence. Wonder what the process is to get Private Lives online? Does the artist have to make agreement with the record co first? [Life is short; make it count.] |

From the horse's mouth re: the Schnells re-releases...
Don't know all the legal contract details (4 x 17% is far from a full royalties breakdown - dunno where the other 32 percent goes - the label?) so it's maybe not as cut and dried as that sounds when you get down to the legal nitty gritty, but it sounds like we should give up hope of ever seeing either of the Schnells albums available again... |

Just to chime in a bit here.
The last post seems a bit out of place. The rest of SF doesn't read or post here, and I know it's hard for Judd fans to believe, but the rest of Schnell Fenster might have ACTUALLY wanted their private business to remain private. So as for the horse's mouth, we've seen him post things that aren't true. Maybe this isn't true. Whether it's true or not, it seems bad form to air something that was meant to be private when the rest of the people involved aren't here to comment. I imagine that if they saw this thread, they wouldn't comment since these are private, internal band matters. Let's please be careful of what we post and from where the info comes. I think that private and internal band dealings were probably things that 3 out of the 4 people wanted to be private and internal. Thanks. |

Fair enough - I probably did post more than was necessary there, but I'm pretty sure that, while Noel & Nige don't frequent this board, others who do know them might have been able to chime in on the situation.
Re-releases always seem so much simpler for the fans, especially since the digital era of iTunes (in theory) makes a re-release a much easier matter. Anyway, I think it's safe to say that there's some interest out here I think to have these re-issued (even if it is a small interest - if the Makers albums could see the light of day, why not the Schnells?) Just wanted to see if we could get some more interest in the albums going and some clearer answers as to why it's (allegedly) not happening |

As I await the Schnellsters online debut, it is interesting to hear the ups & downs of the real music industry, not the limited image we plebs see.
To PJ: The hardest part to take in life is that, yes, some people are VERY crappy; including ex friends. A past hurt/ grudge (not sure ‘bout here) can stop someone being gracious or kind, out of hurt/ anger/ selfishness, even when it would help them. They could communicate & clear it up, but too often want to hurt back, instead. Yes, 17% is not massive, but it IS an income stream, which all four would get - no quibbling about 1’s dominance. As PJ says he has more right to complain, since he was the creative juice, but he'll take 17% if it gets it out there. (I think that’s what he meant?) Theoretically is 1% better than NO percent?? However piddly the amount - is it good news for all to have their names 'regurgitated' (so to speak) into the public's mind? Because that could revive interest in each person which links up to their other work; and/ or entice new work/ interviews/ or sales of prior stuff they've done (like Enz, etc). Does it need a gracious, kind enquiry into what would solve the problem; it may lead to some surprising answers. Who knows??? There is no doubt to my mind that this is easily resolved (despite how it looks now) & we will see SF on itunes in the future. |

A bit of a chopped up quote, but I was thinking something very similar and would have posted those thoughts had you not said it first. To me something is better than nothing, in general, even if there's an argument over portions. ~*~ Lu Yan: He who speaks, does not Know; He who Knows, does not speak. Surely you're masterful. |

Aka
need to say that post like that are the things that cause a wider gap between band members and make possible releases impossible. Please think before you post...there are always two sides to a story and with the Schnells & Phil usually 4 sides... this sort of thing really does not help the situation...no matter which band member is quoted. Firstly, we are thankful PJ is not a long lost Finn brother (named Wail? no!). Secondly, I think Gryph is onto something there - it is important that parties in any dispute find a way to make agreement peaceably between themselves where possible. CASE IN POINT: On TV last night the Bee Gees said when they first became famous, their egos got too big and they made a lot of money, things went off track. They actually broke up and weren't talking to each other but were even fighting through the media instead. Robin Gibb had good success on his own, but one day went to brother Maurice and said success was better with the 3 of them, than by himself. They patched things up and that day began to write "How Do You Mend A Broken Heart?". The answer for them seems to be honest communication and willingness to forgive. I was surprised to hear that story from those guys, but it showed how effective and helpful it is to share our feelings and desires. There's nothing wrong with opinions and suggestions an' all. Perhaps they come better after other ways are exhausted first. Then it cuts out that 'he says' 'she says' nonsense which can build more walls between people than are actually there. I like this saying. It reminded me of this situation and integrity, which I get the impression PJ is striving for: "If I am not for myself, who will be? But if I am only for myself, who am I?" As human as he is, in that he has made mistakes like any of us, I'm noticing that hilip Judd has signs of that rare type of integrity - the common sense that is not common? - which the music industry as well as society are almost devoid of:
ie. He took the band's (SF) debt on after they split. $50,000(?). He didn't have to do that. He felt responsible for paying his bills & supporting his family, so took 'regular' jobs, like house-painting to cover it; no riding on his 'star' status or special treatment. He could have come back to NZ & made that popular 'career choice' of going on the dole to make ends meet. He didn't do that. His daughter came to live with him at 15. He didn't turn her away. Plenty of fathers would have said 'back to mummy'. He didn't. [Life is short; make it count.] |

This topic is not an application for Judd's canonisation.
None of us know which of these things may be true or not. As PG said, there are at least 4 sides to a story, and Judd has a history of not necessarily telling the truth (or the whole truth) or the same truth. I would ask that we perhaps wind this down and keep it on topic. Any debt Phil has or any care he took of his own child are not relevant. I'd expect him to care for his child. That's what Dads do. Can we stay on topic please? And can we butt out of people's private lives and internal band business? If a post from me doesn't do it and a post from PG doesn't do it, I'm trying again. Next time, we close the topic. Thanks. |

I know this topic is supposed to be closed but I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see it being kept active so, without offending anyone (fan or musician) or going "off topic" (yeah, I've been reading), do y'all have any thoughts on starting a poll to see how many positive votes might be collected re getting the "OK, Alright...." CD back on the shelves? I'm thinking along the lines of people power.
I don't know who this lobby would be put forward to but maybe we should just make a start anyway and the powers that be might pick up on it. Perhaps Debbie might suggest how to do it? (I'm relatively new to the forum so please forgive me if this is not the done thing.) |

I think everyone involved would like to see the Schnell Fenster records re-released in some form, and I think the "powers that be" in this case are aware of that. It's just a case of letting the details work themselves out.

Aren't both Schnells albums out of print now? Or is The Sound of Trees still available in Australia? I was lucky to find a used copy of Trees, but have not been able to track down OK Alright... anywhere.
I've had people asking me for years now how they can get a copy of OK Alright. So, yeah, obviously a lot of interest out there. So, I am here to sound off my interest as well -- no harm in that. "My parents beat me cos I laughed or something like that." |

Thx, Iarla & Electric Elf. I'm just a fan (with no hidden agenda) who'd really like to get their hands on a copy of "OK, Alright...." and reading through the comments on the forum it just seemed that perhaps enough had been said from an emotional point of view (on all sides) and that maybe a better way to come at it was by grabbing the (music business) bull by the (financial) horns.
Obviously these things cost money and I thought that if "the powers that be" could quantify the demand with the results of a poll it might make some decisions easier. Of course, it could go against those of us who want to see the CD's back on some kind of market but wouldn't a way of registering interest be a good start? |
